I'm sure all of you fashionistas are on the lookout for cute but also wallet-friendly accessories and clothes. Look no further. Here is a short list of some cheap finds that may brighten up your wardrobe, but not empty your bank account.
1. Tall Riding Boots by Gap (not available in normal stores, only outlets) for $19.90
Though they are not real leather, these boots look good and are an excellent deal, for they were originally around $60 and are the cheapest pair I've found so far. I would have bought them, but they did not have my size.
2. Bubble Sleeve Cardigan by Twelve by Twelve (there are not many stores, so your best bet is buying it online) for $34
This cardigan has a vintage feel, for the shape, pearl buttons, and jeweled brooch are reminiscent of times before our own. Twelve by Twelve tends to have better quality and more trendy clothing than Forever 21 (Twelve by Twelve is one of it's branches), hence the higher price, and also a very small percent of it is cashmere. This is a good buy for people who like the vintage look.
3. Punk Long Wallet by Marc Jacobs (only available in stores) for $23
The fact that Marc Jacobs can sell something for $23 probably shocked you. Marc Jacobs has 'special items' in his stores that are way less expensive than his normal stuff, and equally as cute. One good buy is a patent clutch/wallet that comes in six colors, from black to hot pink. It's ideal for those with a punk edge, but still girly enough for those of us who aren't a fan of raccoon eyes.
4. Ringspun cotton silk-appliqué critter tee by J. Crew for $29.99
Though simple, this shirt is extremely cute and versatile. You can wear it casual with simple jeans and flats, or more dressy with a high-waisted skirt and heels. This shirt was originally $49.50, and comes in two colors. Personally, I prefer champagne, but you can decide for yourself.
5. Majorette Wool Coat by Heritage 1981 (can be found at Forever 21 stores or online) for $39.90
Are you into the whole military-inspired look that's popular this season? If so, you'll like this coat, and so will your wallet. It is functual, for it will keep you warm, and it is also stylish. Though 40 bucks may not seem cheap, you must consider that a coat like this would sell for a lot more in a store like Urban Outfitters or Nordstrom. Many people forget style for comfort, but this is both.
6. Chroma Tights by Forever 21 for $5.80 per pair
Many think that because tights are more expensive, they last longer or are of better quality. That is not necessarily true. I've been browsing many fashion boards, and they all agree that Forever 21 tights are just as good as tights you'd get from Nordstrom or American Apparel. Bright tights have been popularized by Blair Waldorf & Co., so it'd be smart to stock up. They look great with a high-waisted skirt or mini-dress.
7. Kimchi Blue Knit Ruffle Mini Skirt by Urban Outfitters for $29.99 (only for blue)
This flirty, feminine skirt is a cute alternative to the denim skirt. It can be dressed up with heels and dressy shirt, or can be casual with a breezy cardigan and flats. The sale price is only for 'Blazer Blue'. It also comes in black, but the price is $48. xox, rachel

Everyone is used to seeing women prance around in extremely put-together and meticulous outfits, but here's a different side to things. Can't get enough of this season's geek-chic style? If you haven't already, get a pair of oxfords. They've been seen all around town this fall and give any outfit an extra boost. Oxford pumps tend to look more professional and look amazing with a sleek pencil skirt and flouncy blouse while flat oxfords are more casual. Try and find a patent or metallic pair, for those will stand out more than matte ones. Also, you can't go wrong with a two-toned pair. xox, rachel

bright tights

Though many of you have probably caught onto this trend by now, I'm posting this for those of you who haven't. When wearing a cute mini (skirt or dress) this fall, don't go bare legged. Instead, take a hint from Crayola and sport some tights in bright hues. Try to stick to colors like red and blue, and stay away from colors like brown or mustard yellow. If you're not quite brave enough to rock this trend, try a lighter color (perhaps a light pink?) or patterned tights. If you need ways to wear them, take a cue from Blair Waldorf and Jenny Humphrey from Gossip Girl. fall previews

Though most of us have been out of school for only a couple of weeks, stores are already rolling out clothes for fall. This morning, abercrombie sent me an e-mail with a picture of a teenage boy and the headline, "back-to-school style," or something like that. Though my friends thought it was weird that I am already getting e-mails, I felt like the fashionista inside me has woken up from my three-week-long style nap which started when I got out of school. Ever since this morning, my mind has been whirring, thinking about what I will buy when I go back to school shopping and what trends will become my signature trends this year. I was even talking to my friend about it while running toward the vault, preparing to do a front handspring in gymnastics. My coach thought I was crazy. But when I'm woken up from my style sleep, nothing can get me to shut my eyes until the next summer.

Enought about me, though. You're not reading to find out about my personal life. You're reading to find out the latest trends in fashion. When browsing along numerous websites today, I found that the style this fall will be quite similar to what it was last year, but with little twists here and there. This year, style will not be as feminine as it was, but more toward the masculine side. Though there are still feminine details, we will not be getting as dressed up as we did last year, to my dismay. The colors have stayed the same, though. There will be a lot of black, grey, and darker hues of your favorite colors. There are, of course, exceptions. Christian Louboutin has come out with a pair of booties in hot pink. Trench coats will make a re-appearance, as will ankle boots, feminine blouses, and riding boots. Instead of the babydoll dresses from last year, we will be seeing more form fitting dresses instead. Don't despair, though, because there will still be babydoll dresses, just not as many. Also, high-waisted styles in pants, skirts, and shorts are becoming very popular. If you want to be in style this fall, I think you should take a look at Blair Waldorf's outfits from Gossip Girl. The things that she wears are currently very trendy. xox, rachel

Are you a fan of Fall Out Boy? If you didn't already know, Pete Wentz from FOB has created his own clothing line. Featuring anything from tank tops with word searches on them to grey skinny jeans, Wentz has created a line that could fit in with just about every girls' wardrobe. The line tends to run small, so order a size up. You can get it at Nordstrom. My favorite piece from this collection has to be the Long Sleeve Hoody in Navy. xox, rachel

Instead of going for the simple cotton pleated skirt, try something new. This season, skirts come in all different prints, silhouettes, and lengths. The following three skirts are some of my favorites that are currently in stores.

If your closet is filled with ethnic prints and flowing skirts, you'll love the Petra Swing Skirt from Forever 21. The A-Line shape looks great on all body types, and the intricate pattern will draw the attention you want. Wear it with a fitted tee and wedges for a classic but still trendy look.

Do you find yourself drawn to edgy, eye-catching pieces? Then the Pleat Front Buckle Skirt from Wet Seal is for you. In fire-engine red and khaki, you can stand out or blend in. Pair it with a print tank and bright heels. If you're really daring, add some thick bangles.

Is your style girly with a twist? If so, the Nellie Skirt from Delia's will blend in seamlessly with the rest of your wardrobe. The bright red is balanced with the perky flower print, making it a perfect pick. A basic henley and some gladiator sandals would look great with the skirt. xox, rachel

Is your style boho-chic? This season, ombre is huge. Ombre, a more subtle version of tie-dye is being featured on dresses, tank tops, scarves, and many other things. For a dressier look, pair an ombre dress with ankle boots and a slouchy hobo bag. If you want to look more casual, pair an ombre tank with shorts that hit mid-thigh and brown leather flip flops.

The two patterns are a good choice for summer because they elongate the body. The Teeze Me Seersucker Tank Dress from Nordstrom is a great choice for girly, feminine styles. With it's gentle pattern and babydoll cut, it's a perfect dress for the spring and summer. Wear it plain with cork wedges or with a cute cardigan over it.

Dear Without an Outfit, first thing's first; considering you'll be sitting down, do not wear a mini skirt. Also, you don't want to wear anything you won't be comfortable in, so no itchy sweaters. Play it safe with a babydoll sweater in a color that pops with skinny jeans. Pair them with either ankle boots or furry boots. Are you looking forward to Valentine's Day? Whether you're going out on a date or chilling with your friends, you have to look great!

If you're hanging out with friends, go for something casual, but still cute. If you're watching a movie marathon with your girls, try a plain tank, a (heart!) patterned hoodie, and roll-up sweats.
If you're going out to the cool new restaraunt you've all wanted to try, dress up a bit more and wear a pink babydoll paired with skinny jeans and furry boots.

If you're going out on a date to a casual place, wear a red belted button-up with skinny jeans and ankle boots. Accessorize with a delicate locket (maybe heart shaped?). If you're going on a formal date, try a black minidress with red tights and black heels. Keep accessories simple, and only wear earrings, as well as carrying a clutch. xox, rachel

TEST DRIVE: skin milk smoothies shower gel

I've had my eye on this shower gel for a while, but I've never actually bought it. I had heard good things about it from my favorite magazine, Girl's Life, but I was still curious. It was a last minute purchase. I was being rung up at the checkout when I saw it. I quickly snatched it up and put it on the counter.

When I got home, I was quite anxious to use it. The description on the bottle made it sound even greater than it looks. That night, when it was time to take a shower, I was very excited. When opening the bottle, a burst of fruity fragrance reached my nose. I poured a quarter sized dollop on my pouf, and smoothed it over my skin. It felt great! Though the scent only lingers for a couple of minutes, my skin felt better than ever.

The next day, my skin was soft and smooth. Though the sharp winter air had reached it, the weather had no effect on my skin, leaving it moisturized and looking fabulous.

This shower gel is a great choice! It smells, looks, and feels wonderful. You should definitely try it out! xox, rachel

TEST DRIVE: wetslicks fruit spritzers

During my most recent trip to Rite-Aid I purchased Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers by Covergirl. I had seen the product featured in my favorites magazines, like Girls Life, and on America's Next Top Model. When I arrived, I was quite dissapointed to see only a couple of flavors were left. I selected the one that I thought was the best choice, which happened to be watermelon

The first thing I noticed about the gloss was the price, which was $5.99. I don't know about you, but with my budget, six bucks for lipgloss is pricey. I hoped that it would pay off.

When I got home, I tried it out. One of the things I love most about it is that it's not sticky like other glosses. You can barely feel it! Another thing is that it is sheer, so you can't tell you have gloss on. It just looks like you have perfect lips. I don't know how it will look on you, but the pink color looked great with my pale skin.

Though a little pricey for a drugstore product, I think this is a fabulous lipgloss that you should definitely try. xox, rachel

my trip to rite-aid

Today my mom and I ventured through Suburbia to Rite-Aid, which is about a half of a mile away from my house. There, I got more than just Sour Punch Straws (which, by the way, is my favorite candy EVER!). I also got Covergirl's Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers in Watermelon Splash, as well as Skin Milk Smoothies Shower Gel in Raspberry, which smells fabulous. I'll probably be doing a section called test drive on the things I got. xox, rachel

my saturday shopping trip

Last Saturday I went shopping with my dad. I didn't get that much, since it was sort of last minute. My dad had to go to Barnes and Noble and Radio Shack, so I sort of convinced him to let me go to some stores. I spent most of my time in abercrombie, because I take forever to choose what I want to buy. I decided on a simple aqua polo. One of the first biggest trends of 2007 was skinny jeans. Wherever you went, there was at least one person wearing skinny jeans. The most popular colors they came in were grey, black, and dark blue. People paired them with everything from neutral babydolls to bright sweaters.

Another big trend was babydoll tops. The new fashion, which was flattering on almost any one's body shape, was very big in the summer. Babydolls came in bright colors and neutral tones.

The next big trend was casual dresses. In the fall, dresses completely replaced jeans in some wardrobes. They came in many different styles and colors, like sweater dresses or belted dresses. Casual dresses were normally worn with either skinny jeans or leggings worn under them, or just with tights.

A big trend in 2007 was sophisticated coats. All around the world, people were putting away their puffers in exchange for sleek pea coats and trench coats. These coats were many different colors, like black or red. Some even had patterns on them.

The final trend from 2007 was plaid. Plaid was very big in summer, being featured on shorts, and the pattern carried on into the fall where plaid skirts and coats were abroad.

Did you get tons of gift cards for Christmas (or Hanukkah or Kwanzaa), and are planning to go shopping? Never, ever go shopping on the day after Christmas. Sure, that's when you get lots of good stuff, but it's extremely crowded. Also, don't go in the middle of the day. If stores are opening early, take advantage of it and set your alarm clock. When it comes to clothes, never buy stuff for spring. It's still winter, and you can easily get everything for spring in February or March, when the sales are. Buy warmer stuff when you go shopping after the holidays, because you don't need a new mini skirt in January. Also, if you go to Florida for February vacation like I do, always go to the outlet malls there. They'll have different stuff than up north where I live, and will have good discounts for spring. xox, rachel

Wondering what you'll wear to that sweet holiday soiree you were invited to? Have no clue what to wear to the annual family party? Don't look any further.

For a family gathering, opt for something cozy, but stylish. You don't want to ruin your favorite dress when you're crawling around with your cousins on the floor, do you? Choose a chunky sweater dress in a neutral color with leggings and flats. Not one for dresses? Settle for a feminine blouse and wide leg jeans.

For a party, wear something that will stand out, like metallics. You'll be an island of originality in a sea of little black dresses. If you don't mind dresses, wear a shimmery dress a little higher than the knee with some tights and heels. If you don't like dresses, wear a (metallic) trapeze top with dark skinny jeans and heels.

Ribbons and bows are being seen all over this season. They've been on dresses, shoes, and even headbands. They give every look a feminine feel. If you do opt for a bow, keep it to a minimal. Don't suffocate yourself in piles of bows and ribbons, just wear a small amount. Also, bows in darker colors like grey and black keep your outfit from looking like you're in third grade, and add a touch of sophistication. xox, rachel

Are you tired of Bath & Body Works? Then you should check out Lush. Lush has handmade products such as bath bombs (they're like fizzes, except a lot bigger!), massage bars (it's moisturizer in a bar. You just smooth the bar over your skin, and wa-lah!), and bubble bars (you crumble them under running water.) Also, it is sort of expensive, but that's only because their products are made out of Fair Trade ingredients. My favorite is the Shimmy Shimmy massage bar, which makes your skin look luminous and radiant. xox, rachel

In honor of Thanksgiving, my teacher gave our class a project to each create our own 3-D turkey, made out of anything we want. In the past, others have made their's out of wire, candy, CDs, etc. I'm thinking about making my turkey out of papier-mache, and then covering it with faux gems. What do you think? My idea was inspired by the dress I've had my eye on, which is covered in sparkles. I'll post pics once I'm done! xox, rachel
